The Mysterious Character

This Mysterious Character, named: The Angel of the LORD,
appears several places in the Old Testament.

Literally He appears: 58 times in 57 verses:
In the Old Testament Scriptures, in the KJV Bible Translation
And one time in the New Testament Scripture.

We will look at just a few cases.
(But I will leave the entire list for your
convenient study at the end of this post series.)

As you can clearly see, This Person is not just a casual
One Time, or Two Time appearing figure in the Testimony of God.
He is in Fact a Regular. A repeat performer.
As Such He should be a well known figure, Right?
But how many times have you done a thorough personal
or group study on this Person
The Angel of the LORD?

4 Preliminary Notes:

  1. There’s a big difference grammatically and linguistically, between “an Angel of the LORD” and “The Angel of the LORD.” An refers to one among many angels of the LORD. The Angel refers to One Specific Angel [prophet, priest, messenger, ambassador, or King].
  2. Angel in Hebrew can be translated in several ways into English: Original: מלאך  Transliteration: mal’âk  Phonetic: mal-awk’
Definition: From an unused root meaning to despatch as a deputy; a messenger ; specifically of God, that is, an angel (also a prophet, priest or teacher): – ambassador, angel, king, messenger.
In other words, the context of the usage of the word angel will really be helpful in determining which meaning of the Hebrew word fits best in to the context of the story.
  3. “The LORD” again, not just any lord, but “The LORD.” The Word LORD in all caps is YHWH (Original: יהוה), often pronounces
    Transliteration: yehôvâh  Phonetic: yeh-ho-vaw’; Jehovah,
Definition: From H1961; (the) self Existent or eternal; Jehovah, Jewish national name of God: – Jehovah, the Lord. Compare H3050, H3069.
For More background on the Name of God, click the link. It it an involved subject, to big to tackle here.
  4. “the” captain of the LORD’s host. Again, this is not one among many captains, the figure is “The” Captain of the LORD’s host.

A Call to Pay Careful Attention:

Whenever you meet a character in Scripture, that Speaks in the First Person as God,
Whenever you meet a character in Scripture, that Receives genuine worship as God,
Even though, that Character is called an Angel, a Messenger, or a Messiah, do not be unlearned,
Do not be misinformed, do not be without an eye that can see, or without an an ear that can hear,
Such a Person is God Himself. The One who walks upon the Earth, who eats and drinks,
Who speaks and listens, who acts with Holy Strength, and Wrestles with His Chosen Ones,
And Yet, He is as Eternal and Holy as the Father: He is the Son of God, known and loved,
By All those who can See Him.  www.Do-You-See-Him? (See: John 1:1-5)

Abraham Prepares a Meal for God

Genesis 18:1-5 (KJV) 1 And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day; 2 And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground, 3 And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant: 4 Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree: 5 And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said.

Jacob (Israel) Wrestles with an Angel

Genesis 32:24-30 (KJV) 24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. 25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. 26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. 27 And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. 28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. 29 And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. 30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.

Daniel Meets an Angel, in Radiant Glory more Terrifying than Gabriel

Daniel 10:2-19 (KJV)
In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks. 3 I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled. 4 And in the four and twentieth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which is Hiddekel; 5 Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz: 6 His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude. 7 And I Daniel alone saw the vision: for the men that were with me saw not the vision; but a great quaking fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves. 8 Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me: for my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength. 9 Yet heard I the voice of his words: and when I heard the voice of his words, then was I in a deep sleep on my face, and my face toward the ground.

10 And, behold, an hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands. 11 And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling. 12 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God [Daniel was fasting and praying], thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. 13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia. 14 Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days. 15 And when he had spoken such words unto me, I set my face toward the ground, and I became dumb. 16 And, behold, one like the similitude of the sons of men touched my lips: then I opened my mouth, and spake, and said unto him that stood before me, O my lord, by the vision my sorrows are turned upon me, and I have retained no strength. 17 For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me, straightway there remained no strength in me, neither is there breath left in me. 18 Then there came again and touched me one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me, 19 And said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me.

John Meets the God Face to Face in Blinding Glory

Revelation 1:9-20 (NASB) 9 I, John, your brother and fellow partaker in the tribulation and kingdom and perseverance which are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. 10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like the sound of a trumpet, 11 saying, “Write in a book what you see, and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea.”
12 Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands; 13 and in the middle of the lampstands I saw one like a son of man, clothed in a robe reaching to the feet, and girded across His chest with a golden sash. 14 His head and His hair were white like white wool, like snow; and His eyes were like a flame of fire. 15 His feet were like burnished bronze, when it has been made to glow in a furnace, and His voice was like the sound of many waters. 16 In His right hand He held seven stars, and out of His mouth came a sharp two-edged sword; and His face was like the sun shining in its strength.
17 When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. And He placed His right hand on me, saying, “Do not be afraid; I am the first and the last, 18 and the living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades. 19 Therefore write the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which will take place after these things. 20 As for the mystery of the seven stars which you saw in My right hand, and the seven golden lampstands: the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.

Have You Just Seen God’s Message from God’s Perspective?

If you choose to look, and to see these cases from God’s Perspective, and who it is that God is Presenting to you, and if you Choose to receive Him, just as God has intended for you to receive Him, Today will be a Day of Great Rejoicing, not only in your own heart, but also in the Heart of God, and also In the Courtrooms of Heaven, where the Great Cloud of Witnesses will be celebrating, (Hebrews 12:1-4), Both Angels and Saints, echoing Praises and Rejoicing will be Heard before the Throne of Heaven.

For apparently, we are not alone, they can see everything we do, through the veil between us and heaven.

Have aliens been here on earth? You can be sure of that, but only The Word of God, correctly, identifies them as either Angels or Demons.

The truth be told: we are not alone:

Hebrews 12:1-2 (KJV)
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Luke 15:6-7 (KJV)
And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. 7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

Personally, I know that angels have saved my life on several occasions. They have intervened for me in life saving events, that I don’t deserve and have in no way earned (except due to my own stupidity, and reckless behavior). They were simply the spectacular interventions of the Grace of God, because apparently, God has had plans for me that I have not fulfilled as of yet.

Please Note: their is a big difference between normal everyday angels, and “The Angel of the LORD.” The list of references below only include the second kind.

May the heart of faith read these references as gifts aplenty, reserved especially for you, to receive as eternally precious and blessed treasures you can return to anytime day or night.

Are You Seeing from God’s Perspective?

If you truly want to see God’s Word from God’s Perspective, nothing in this world can hold you back, besides your own pride and your own ego, and your own choice to return to believing in the lies and deceptions of men, trusting in them, over the Word of God, and the Truth of God, but who would ever choose to believe in the lies of men, once they have discovered God’s Word from God’s Perspective? Who could to be swayed into believing that the temporary pleasures, temptations, and perversions of Satan, have anything to compare to the eternal, glorious, majestic, and blessed pleasures of God that will endure unto infinity?

The truth be told, many will be tempted to turn away from God’s Word from God’s Perspective. They will be convinced, God’s Word is full of lies, errors, darkness, foolishness, and an unkind, meany god, who doesn’t care about the fun his children want to have, and condemns it and them for just wanting to have fun. Such lies are daily being told, and daily being received, which will turn foolish children away for God’s Eternal Home and God’s Eternal Plan of Salvation: What is at stake here is eternal life and eternal death, and we are the only ones that can make the choice to receive one or the other.

John 11:25-26 (KJV)
Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection,
and the life: he that believeth in me,
though he were dead, yet shall he live:
And whosoever liveth and believeth in me
shall never die. Believest thou this?

The Story of Salvation:

What you will be reading below: In the  is a Story of Salvation, Told by the Man whose Name Means “Salvation”.
The Key to Seeing Him is Knowing Him, Understanding Him, His Mission, His Work, His Message, His LIFE–
That is the Whole Purpose for which the Word of God has been Written from the Very Beginning to the Very End.

The Testimony of Yeshua [Jesus  = “Salvation”], the Eternal Word of God, The Logos, the Messenger of God’s Law,
The Second Person of the Triune God–Elohim [Which is a Hebrew Plural Word, that Describes God as One but Plural],
Which is a total Mystery in itself, [One that cannot be understood, or explained in Human Terms]
Who is revealed throughout the Scripture as the Lamb of God who will Take Away the Sins of the World,
Who is our Saviour, our Redeemer, our Melchizedek, our Holy One, Righteous One, Sent from Heaven to Earth,
Who is the Same Yesterday, Today, and Forever, The One Whom Death could not Hold Down,
Who is the Resurrection, The Living One, the One who Proved His Power over Death Itself,
The One Who Led Israel through the Red Sea, on dry Ground, But saw the Egyptians Perish in the Waters, (Ex. 14)
The One Who Overcame Death & Hell by the Power of His Own Life, and the Word of His Own Testimony,
The One Who Destroyed the Works of the Devil, The One Who Set the Captives Free (who wants us to be set free),
The One Who Never: Lied, Cheated, Stole, Lusted, Slandered, Falsely Accused, Coveted, and Never misrepresented God,
The One Who Never Sinned, Who Was Perfect in Every Way, A Lamb Spotless and without Blemish …
The One Who is the Very “Bread of Life” the Sustaining Manna From Heaven, The True Source of Life Itself.

Do you know him? Have you seen him? Have you ever listened to his voice? Can you hear his voice now? Will you ever choose to listen to his voice? Will you ever stop and listen, choose to understand, choose to believe, choose to obey, choose to honor, The Name, and the Word of God?

Or have your eye has been blinded to the majesty of God, the holiness of God, the purity of God, the righteousness of God, and utterly Blinded to the salvation of God? Like the Israelites who were before you? Like all those who have refused to see with their eyes, hear with their ears, and believe with their hearts, that God leads his people through the waters of that baptism, where men have died to themselves, and come out on the other side to a life in God, resurrected from the dead, that believes and has experienced that God raises men from the dead.

Exodus 14:13-14 (KJV)
13 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the Salvation of the LORD, which He will shew to you Today [Not tomorrow, but Today, This Day]: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen Today, ye shall see them again no more for ever. 14 The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

If you ever decide that you want to KNOW this Mysterious Person, The Angel of the LORD, the Door is Open on God’s Side,
“Behold, I stand at your Door and Know if any man, hear My Voice, and open the Door, I will sup with him, and he with Me.” (Revelation 3:20)
But the hour of openness is quickly closing–Beyond Today, There is No Promise, Tomorrow is Not Promised.

Psalms 25:5-7 (KJV)
5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me:
for thou art the God of my salvation;
on thee do I wait all the day.
6 Remember, O LORD, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses;
for they have been ever of old.
7 Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions:
according to thy mercy remember thou me
for thy goodness’ sake, O LORD.

“This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”      Luke 19:9-10 (KJV)

1 Chronicles 16:21-30 (KJV)
He suffered no man to do them wrong:
yea, he reproved kings for their sakes,
22 Saying, Touch not mine anointed,
and do my prophets no harm.
23 Sing unto the LORD, all the earth;
shew forth from day to day his salvation.
24 Declare his glory among the heathen;
his marvellous works among all nations.
25 For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised:
he also is to be feared above all gods.
26 For all the gods of the people are idols:
but the LORD made the heavens.
27 Glory and honour are in his presence;
strength and gladness are in his place.
28 Give unto the LORD, ye kindreds of the people,
give unto the LORD glory and strength.
29 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name:
bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.
30 Fear before him, all the earth:

2 Corinthians 6:1-2 (KJV)
We then, as workers together with him,
beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.
(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted,
and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee:
behold, now is the accepted time;
behold, now is the day of salvation.)

Revelation 12:10-12 (KJV)
10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. 12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

1 Thessalonians 5:6-10 (KJV)
Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. 7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. 8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. 9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
