Can You Love God:

Without Christianity?

Side Note: There is no religion in the Bible called “Christianity.” Nor is there any religion in the Bible called “Judaism …”

  • Many religions believe there are many ways to God.
  • So why is faith in Christ so exclusive? So Narrow? So Limited?

What’s the difference between Loving God for Who He Really Is,

and Loving an image of God you created in your own mind?

Can You Love God Without Christianity?

That question itself can be a confusing and ambiguous question.

It raises a vital important point: What is Christianity?

And which Christianity are we talking about?

The truth be told there are many “Christianity’s” complaining to be the true Christian faith, but are they? Which is founded upon the Message and Promise of God? Which one is written down and proclaimed by the Prophets of God: from Moses to Malachi?

Extened Side Note: There is no religion in the Bible called “Christianity.” Nor is there any religion in the Bible called “Judaism…”

There is only one true faith, proclaimed, and maintained in the Word of God from beginning to the end. That faith is founded on the Choice to Accept to Know God, (or the opposite to choose to reject), the Choice to Do the Will of God, as clearly presented in His word, through his prophets, recorded in His Old Testament (Jer. 31:31-34), and fulfilled in His New Covenant (Hebrews 10:10-12).

  • Hebrews 8:7-12 (KJV)
For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second [covenant]. 8 For finding fault with them [the Israelites who sinned, and broke the first covenant], he saith,

Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a
    New Covenant
with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: 9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.

10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put  into their mind, and write them [My Laws] in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. 12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

  • Therefore as God has said: There will only be ONE God, making ONE Covenant,
with ALL People, (in His Kingdom, there is neither:

    • Jew nor Gentile,
    • Slave nor Free,
    • Rich nor Poor,
    • Male nor Female,

  • But, ALL will be One in the Messiah,
And, ALL will serve Him with gladn
    ess of Heart.

  • Therefore, there will only be: Just the ONE True Faith. It does not have a Biblical Name, but only one true Biblical Description, and one true Biblical requirement:

    • To Know God and, Do God’s Will

    • By Doing God’s Will, we have the evidence to prove that:
We Know God as proclaimed by the Messiah Himself:

    • Matthew 7:21-23 (KJV)
      21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven;

but [only] he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

The original covenant promised that one Messiah would come and lead all mankind back to God. He would come to the Jews first, then also to the Gentiles. That Messiah would be confirmed by God: By Fulfilling “ALL” the Prophecies Recorded in God’s Old Testament Promises. Any Prophet that proclaimed to be the Messiah, but did not fulfill all the Prophecies of the Messiah in their Perfect Timing, could not be the One and Only True Messiah of God, and according to God’s Holy Permanent and Unbreakable Word, a fake Messiah, that cannot be listened to, followed or obeyed (under the penalty of lost salvation, lost relationship with true God, and a complete loss of all the promises I’ve got to redeem and restore those who obey the one true Messiah).

A vital important point: God fore-warned that many false Messiah’s would come. But they could not, and would not fulfill even 8, of the most clear and inambiguous prophecies concerning the Messiah, much less the 300+ prophecies fulfilled by the Messiah’s His first Coming. Much less fulfill all the 12,000+ more prophecies that would be completely fulfilled after His second coming, and the final full restoration of the Kingdom of God to it’s original intent, after the battle of Armeggeden, and the Coming down of the New Jerusalem.

A Student Asks: Can you love God without Christianity, the Bible, Church, Etc.?

Main Points

  • The Question of Loving God Without Christianity

    • Many wonder if it’s possible to genuinely love God without adhering to Christianity, the Bible, or Jesus’ teachings.

  • The Importance of Knowing Who God Is

    • The central issue is not just loving “God” in a general sense,

    • But knowing who God truly is, rather than creating a god in our own image.

  • Jesus’ Unique Claims

    • Jesus claimed to be God in human form,

    • And the exclusive way to know God,

    • This sets Christianity apart from other faiths 4.

  • The Role of Truth in Faith

    • Truth claims, like Jesus saying “I am the way, the truth, and the life,”

    • Are not just exclusive-

    • They are either true or false.

    • They demand a response.

Subpoints

  • Can You Remove Christianity and Still Love God?

    • The student asks if one can love God by combining elements from various religions or without any religious framework at all 8.

  • Creating God in Our Own Image

    • If we define God on our own terms,

    • We risk never truly knowing the real God,

    • by only creating a projection of ourselves.

      • That’s what it means to Create a God in our own image.

  • Jesus as the Revealer of God

    • If Jesus’ claims are true, then he is the accurate revelation of God,

    • Therefore,  knowing/loving God means responding to Jesus 24.

  • The Necessity of Pursuing Truth

    • Just as we insist on truth in math or science,

    • we should also seek truth in spiritual matters,

    • we should not settle for “anything goes” relativism.

Quotes

“If I turn God into a white 6’1″ male with blonde hair and blue eyes, I’m obviously not content to know God for who God is; I’m insistent upon creating God in my likeness, in my own image-that condemns me to never really knowing God.”

“Was Jesus blowing smoke when he claimed to be God in human form, or was he speaking the truth? Because if he’s speaking the truth, what that means is he’s accurately revealing God.”

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” – Jesus (John 14:6) 4

Key Scripture Interpretation

  • John 14:6 – “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

    • This passage is central to the Christian

    • It claims that Jesus is the exclusive path to knowing and loving God.

    • It is not merely a claim to be a good teacher or prophet, but a declaration of unique authority and identity. 4.

  • John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”

    • This verse highlights the Christian view that God’s love and the way to relationship with Him is made possible through Jesus2.

    • From God’s perspective the Great Hurdle from us to Know Him Personally and Intimately, which must be Overcome is this:
      • God is Holy
      • Un-redeemed man is UnHoly
      • In other words: We are unclean, impure, and not at all acceptable to come into God’s Holy, Heavenly Clean, Permanently Perfect Presence.
    • Because of this impossible, insurmountable hurdle on man’s side of the relationship equation, only God could make a way for the unclean to become clean, and the impure to become pure, and the imperfect to become perfect.
    • That way was made possible through Jesus. Through His Perfect Life, Perfect Death, and Perfect Resurrection from the Dead: Without Jesus exchanging His Perfection for Our imperfection, His Holiness for Our Uncleaness, His Purity for Our Sickness:
      • There would be no Way into His Kingdom.
      • Since it was by Our Own Free Will to Reject God that we Became Unclean.
      • The Way to become clean is by our Own Free Will to Accept God through Christ’s Perfect Atonement for our Sin.
      • 2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Ultimate Purpose

  • To Know and Love the True God

    • The ultimate purpose of Christianity is not just religious practice, but to know and love God as He truly is, as revealed in Jesus Christ 257.

  • To Pursue Truth, Not Just Personal Preference

    • Christianity calls individuals to pursue the truth about God, rather than settling for a god of their own making or convenience 6.

Key Takeaway

  • You Can Believe in a God Without Christianity, But…

    • Many people believe in a higher power or a loving God apart from Christianity38. However, Christianity asserts that to truly know and love God as He is, one must encounter Him as revealed in Jesus Christ. Otherwise, you risk loving an idea of God rather than God Himself 42.

  • Christianity’s Distinctive Claim

    • Christianity’s claim is not about exclusivity for its own sake, but about truth: if Jesus is who he claimed to be, then knowing and loving God is inseparable from responding to Jesus 4.

“If Jesus’ claim is true, you better believe in him the same way that if 2 plus 2 equals 4, you better not be so open-minded that your brains fall out and say ‘Well, 2 plus 2 can equal three, it can equal five, you know, it really doesn’t matter.’ No, truth is real and you better pursue truth.”

Summary Table: Christianity vs. General Belief in God

Aspect Christianity’s View General/Other Views
Who is God? Revealed uniquely in Jesus Christ Defined variously, often personally
How to love God? Through relationship with Jesus Through personal belief, good deeds
Is Jesus necessary? Yes – the only way to know and love God Not necessarily
Basis for relationship Grace and faith in Christ Varies: works, meditation, etc.
Truth claim Exclusive: Jesus is the only way Often inclusive or pluralistic
Key Takeaway:

While you can believe in and even love a concept of God apart from Christianity, Christianity teaches that truly knowing and loving God requires encountering Him as He has revealed Himself in Jesus.

  • The challenge is not just to love “a god,”
  • but to seek and respond to the truth about who God really is.
