The Seraphim

Cry Out

Seraph | ˈserəf | noun (plural = seraphim | ˈserəˌfim | or plural seraphs | ˈserəfs |)

Note: in Hebrew nouns, the ending “im” makes the noun plural.

Examples:

Seraph = singular; Seraphim = plural.

EL = God singular; ELOHIM = God plural.

NOTE: Genesis 1:1, “In the Beginning God…” That’s ELOHIM, the plural title for God.

Seraph Definition: An angelic being, regarded in traditional Christian angelology as belonging to the highest order of the ninefold celestial hierarchy, associated with light, ardor, and purity.

Origin: Old English, back-formation from seraphim (plural), via late Latin and Greek from Hebrew śĕrāp̱īm. Compare with cherub.

Isaiah’s vision:

Isaiah 6:1-11 (KJV)  Isaiah’s vision:

1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.

2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. 3 And one cried unto another, and said,

Holy, Holy, Holy,

is the LORD of hosts:
the whole earth is full of his glory.

4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.

5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.

[Please note: the King, the LORD of hosts, is not the father, “whom no man has seen–except the SON”. He is Jesus the Christ, pre-incarnate Son of God, who has been with God from the beginning, and who is God, and it is through him all things were created.
See John 1:1–5.

In this form or in this person, however you want to describe him, Jesus, a.k.a. Yeshua, revealed himself to many of God’s servants throughout Israel’s history. Most notably to Moses, JOSHUA, Isaiah (in the passage below), Daniel (Daniel 7:7–21), Jacob (when he wrestled with God and had his name changed to Israel), Abraham (when he met God under a tree and pleaded with God for the salvation of Sodom and Gomorrah and his nephew lot), and many others. These are just a few of the revelatory prophetic visitations of Christ to his people recorded in the Scriptures.]

6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: 7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged. 8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

9 And he said, Go, and tell this people,
Hear ye indeed, but understand not;
and see ye indeed, but perceive not.

10 Make the heart of this people fat,
and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes;

  • lest they see with their eyes,
  • and hear with their ears,
  • and understand with their heart,
  • and convert, [repent]
  • and be healed.

11 Then said I, Lord, how long? And he answered,
Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant,
and the houses without man,
and the land be utterly desolate …

Please note: this prophetic warning above is relating to the stubbornness of the Jewish people to believe in, follow, and obey the Lord God. God is saying that, even after hearing the very words of God that Isaiah was given to share with his people, that the heart of the people would become dull and their eyes blind, and their ears blocked.

And because of this, the judgment of God would fall upon his people, and they would be exiled out of the land of Israel, and become slaves in the land of their enemies.

The scary part of this message is that the Israelites had only a partial revelation upon which they rebelled against. Today we have a far more full revelation of God, a far greater grasp of history and of reasons to fully believe and fully trust in the Lord God, but we are as wonton and as rebellious, and as hypocritical, and as fake in our religion today, as ever, the people Israel were in their day. And God is not a god of favoritism and injustice. He will repay to each man according to what he has done, and according to what he has said. Today men’s voices condemn themselves. And men’s actions prepare them for their asylum in the darkest pit of death. Because men chose darkness over light. And death over life.
